Today’s Lent reading is Luke 7:37-39, 44-46, the story of the woman’s welcome of Jesus when she broke open an alabaster jar of ointment/ perfume and anointed Jesus. The household object is the threshold, and we are encouraged further by Gordon Giles in his book ‘At Home In Lent’ to think further about letting Christ into our lives and about Jesus’s words on abiding in the vine. (John 15:3-5)
The prayer at the end of this chapter is worth repeating: ‘Father God, as we look forward to spring and Easter, help us prepare to welcome the risen Christ by self-examination, honest reflection and creative engagement with Your word and the world. Amen.’
