How We Got Here

And meanwhile…

Apart from fixing the main hall floor, a number of other jobs were tackled this Saturday:

The cross from the building in Beever Street was moved to the new building and was hung in the main hall:

The community hall and toilets were all cleaned:

Meals and refreshments were prepared and served:

The main door fastenings were altered:

The boxing in of pipework was completed:

Another Floor, Same Teamwork

Now that the floor in the community hall is varnished, it was time to fix the main hall floor (minor repairs), scrub, wash, and varnish the floor in the main hall.

Apart from being a fantastic example of teamwork, this reminded me of the verse:

“On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, and the parts that we think are less honourable we treat with special honour” (1 Cor 12:22-23)

Usually, a floor just doesn’t get this kind of attention! It gets cleaned regularly, but we seem to have spent months cleaning, scrubbing, sweeping, mopping and varnishing the floors in the new building. There has rarely been a Saturday when some part of a floor has not been lovingly attended to.

Still on floors…

Work is continuing in the community hall, getting the floor ‘just so’!

Jenga?

Continuing with the games’ theme…!

Tonight, the ‘missing part’ of the floor has been filled in. All these pieces of wood remind me of Jenga, although this is more like a jigsaw than a tower!

Scrabble?

A number of members in our congregation like to play Scrabble and there has been a lot of discussion over the letters we have had made for the sign to go on the outside of the building. The letters will spell GOLDTHORPE PENTECOSTAL COMMUNITY CHURCH. One person apparently commented that a sure-fire way to get people to cross the threshold was to rearrange them to spell the name of a popular supermarket…

Hopefully we will soon have a photo of the letters on the outside of the building, but in the meantime, here’s a sneak preview… and maybe all you Scrabble fans can work out how many words we can make from those letters?!

The work continues…

Here are some more photos of the work that’s been going on this week at St Mark’s:
